homegardeningplant of the month › hydrangea
Hydrangeas
(
Hydrangea macrophylla is the most common variety
) are delightful plants whose flower colour is determined by the pH levels of the soil in which they grow. A typical garden bed will produce pink flowers, whilst more acidic soil (with a pH level dipping under 4.5) will result in blue flowers. They're pretty tough plants and will survive pretty well anywhere.

Size:

from 1-5m tall

Watering:

Check soil moisture levels and water as needed (occasionally).

Uses:

Garden edging, cut flowers, ornamental, and herbal (warning: Hydrangeas are slightly toxic, especially to pets!)
